to build something out of nothing
with closed eyes and clenched lids
all wet words feel like sonnets;
invincible girls hold
moths in their mouths, drape silver cloth
over untounched faces and freckled cheekbones.
we never knew what to
say
over the hum of summer and rush of river,
it's easy to find devotion in declaration.
love is clever, and so were
we
build churches and hearths in gentle breaths.
there isn't any harm in caressing hollow hearts
tonight.
