Yourself Against You
What do you do
When it's yourself against you?
Hello there, are you here to hear
my experience on when it's only you you fear?
Sit, listen, stay awhile.
We've got all day; you're in exile.
From this day forward, there will be a fight
but not with an enemy you can find with sight.
No, no, much harder to find, harder to kill;
You won't make it out given you lose your will.
At first, you'll try; you're hopeful to stay gleeful.
But this enemy is cunning and extra deceitful.
It will try to convince you this is all in your head;
You'll believe it but can hardly get out of bed.
You won't wish to tell anyone for a long while;
Rather, you'll hold it all in, like tears in a vile.
You'll smile, you'll laugh, you'll shy, you'll hide;
No one will see your storm raging inside.
Some may find out, but they won't try to help.
Instead, they'll taunt you with their uneducated yelp:
"Perfect life," "lazy fake," "attention seeker,"
Can't they see they're only making you weaker?
You'll truly be trying your best;
But I understand the demons just never seem to rest.
Your existence may feel like you're in the gutter.
You'll wonder if anyone can even hear you utter:
"I just cannot do this anymore;
What am I even fighting for?"
And "Oh God, oh God, I just want to die,"
begging for someone to take your life with every cry.
For so long, this hidden battle continues.
Will it ever stop when you have so many issues?
I truly hope someone helps you;
You'll not be sure what to do.
As for myself, I've given up long ago
So, if you find out, please tell me so:
What do you even do
When it's yourself against you?
