My Siamese Twin
Each day is a battle
A battle with myself
Between the two clashing minds
Connected to one beating heart
We are in binary opposition,
Like those who cry out for peace, and others for war.
Conflict arises in between unexpectedly,
the “Groundswell”
oh the “Groundswell”
increases
I am left inert but with a choice
For only one of the two can survive
And this is no reciprocating relationship
So I choose and do well
You absorb me like a leech
and tarnish my life
So with a hatchet off you will go.
As I say, “Ne'er do well”
“Ne'er do well”
Your stubbornness is overwhelming
As the green withers tie around me, constricting me inside
But like Samson I shall break free
As I finally say, “Farewell”
“Farewell”

The poem My Siamese Twin is meant to showcase the internal battle/conflict that I have with myself; the petulant side of me that hangs on like a scrounger, being only a burden in my life, not a help. I begin to realize that with this on my back I am left inert and with one choice… to let one side survive, because we can no longer survive and live together. Alas i decide, and figuratively grab a hatchet to begin to cut the other side of me, but i struggle to do so, as it begins to resist and fight back with me, constricting me, weakening me until i break free from the grasp he has had on me; thus overcoming, and out of the two i survive.
