Constant Repitition
Cover, Pretend, Repeat.
Cover your natural beauty,
Pretend you feel beautiful,
Repeat every day.
Beautiful people stuck in a broken world,
unable of making us feel good enough.
Knowing that no matter how much
we diet
or exercise
or starve ourselves,
we’ll never be able to look
like that photoshopped model
on the cover of every magazine.
Always feeling like a second choice
to every guy in our lives
we aren’t as pretty as the next girl.
Our physical beauty has become
a measure of our self-worth.
All of the hurtful words
(ew, look at you, why do you look like that)
all of the constant criticism
(where did you get that… why did you get that)
all of the hateful negativity
all spiraled into a single tortuous tornado
our minds which should be flooded with
love and empowerment and stability.
What does it mean to be beautiful?
Have your own ideas
be yourself and be confident
be creative and be beautiful.
Do not cover,
do not pretend,
do not repeat.
you’re you and you are
beautiful.
You’re you and you are
special.
You are you and you are
amazing.
Be yourself
embrace what you’ve been given,
be yourself
know that no matter what,
someone will always love you.
be yourself and know that you are
beautiful.
Don’t listen to those voices telling you
you aren’t good enough,
don’t keep yourself from reaching
your full potential
don’t put yourself down
because you don’t look as
attractive
as the girl on the cover of those
magazines.
She’s not that beautiful either.
Beauty isn’t an outer factor,
beauty is measured
by your personality
by your actions,
by the things that make you,
you.
You are perfect
you are beautiful.
But The cold hard truth is...
Someone will always be
more attractive than you.
But it won’t matter when
your brains get you to the top of the food chain
And their looks keep them down in a retail store
Selling makeup to other people trying to overcome their own
insecurities.
But don’t cover your natural beauty.
We’re guilty.
I. Am. Guilty.
I am guilty of covering my face
in layers and layers of makeup.
I am guilty of pretending I love the person
that I am.
I am guilty of repeating the same thoughts
through my head
second after second,
minute after minute,
day after day,
year after year.
I am guilty for basing my self-worth on
my physical beauty.
Now I know that the only thing that
determines my self-worth is me.
I determine my self-worth.
Not you.
Not them.
Me.
And now I know that I am
beautiful.

I went through years and years of feeling like I wasn't good enough for anyone else, this poem is my protest to those thoughts.
