Stupid Rock
Pennsylvania.
Quiet, empty streets.
A, M, and I thought it was perfect to go riding.
A took a big bike,
M took a little bike,
I took a small, pink scooter.
The hill looked like a skyscraper.
I could not see the other side of it.
A and M peddled and I pushed my foot across the rough
Road gaining speed.
My braids flew in the air.
The wheels shook a little, but I didn’t care.
One sandal fell off my tiny foot, but who cared!
It was gone with the wind.
I was laughing and smiling then the worst thing happened.
A rock got lodged under my front wheel
Causing me and the scooter to flip down the hill.
The hard road scabbed my knees,
elbows,
forearms.
A and M now running down the hill laughed so hard because I had rolled.
I lay on the hard ground crying and aching.
My head was spinning. All I saw was my scooter, and two sets of feet
coming for me.
I just closed my eyes and waited for some angel to take me out of my misery.
Stupid rock.
