Open Letter to a Daughter
One day, none of this will matter
That failed test,
That boy you kissed,
And how he didn’t text back.
None of that will matter.
One day, when you are old, none of this will matter.
How many friends you had,
How many dates you’ve been on,
Or how many drinks you had at that party.
None of that will matter.
What does matter is this:
You tried your hardest on every test life gave you
You found love, and together created your perfect life.
The people in your life care for you as you do them
That’s what matters in the end.
In the end,
That failed test – won’t matter
That boy who stood you up – won’t matter.
But the company you kept in life
Will. – In the end.

I wrote this piece to my future daughter. I wanted to write what I've learned in my experiences and want to one day say to her. This could be read by any daughter though, as the meaning holds true to all.
