Glass Ceilings
You can do whatever you set your mind to
Your destiny is up to you
Do whatever you decide to do
That’s what they always say
You should stick with what’s possible
Stick with your strengths
Base it off of how much sense it makes
That’s what they always say
You should change the world
Don’t let it change you
Create opportunities exciting and new
It’s all up to you and your point of view
That’s what they always say!
No! Not that!
It’s unrealistic!
Find another avenue through which to channel your ambition
It’s not enough to just have vision
You have to fit the mold to get the position
Yet when I feel defeated,
I have no excuse, I can beat it
Can I or can’t I?
Make up your mind
I just don’t get it

I wrote this poem to articulate in words what so many people experience.
