Island of Escape
As I sat at my old scratched up worn table,
Thinking about the past,
I thought about being on top of that cliff last summer,
About smelling the sweet and salty summertime air with sand between my sun-kissed toes.
I thought about how looking over the large shining ocean,
Gleaming like polished glass
All I wanted to do was flee,
Spreading my wings out wide,
Wide enough to carry me away.
Letting my soul be as free as can be,
Never looking back,
Only forward.
And it’s funny now to be sitting here,
Thinking back,
Reminiscing on the day that changed my whole life.
I smile as I look out my window at the churning waves splashing up,
Up onto the sand surrounding my little island.
The island I call home.
