Spent my childhood looking up to some gods,

They were rolling,
Living in houses bigger than my yard,
They were spitting rhymes that made their pockets bulge more
Than mountain tops
Never living with what happened to kids like me growing up.

So I went off to become like them,
Making minimum wage pay so I could try to give my family a name,
Working these hours until I go insane
New clothes that weren’t ripped at the hems
I mean, I never had that as a kid, but who’s to blame
When everyone’s out there trying to do the same
It’s just the American Dream that keep some of us in the game

Moving my way up, I thought it'll never stop
Gotta make that money until i get to the top
As soon as I was making big money I was feeling good
I was making new friends as everyone should
I felt like a lord
Using money as my sword
But I soon realised these friends weren't really friends
They were just pretends
They were just in it for that almighty dollar
So I turned to God at the altar
That's when everything became clear
Money isn't the key to success
Happiness is the key we need to possess
I wasn't sure if my American dream was complete
But I still try to teach the people living on the concrete
