Calm Blue
Blue calms me.
I’m not sure why.
Maybe because it’s the color of the air I wish I could fly in,
With wings of gold and worries melting like down feathers.
Maybe because it’s what surrounds me,
As I sit in pillowed silence at the bottom of the pool,
Watching mercury ripples that dance in celebration
At the meeting of air and water,
The ancient lovers eternally weaving through time.
Maybe because it’s the color of the wind against the night sky.
Wind that tangles me in its ribbon dance,
Bringing me joy,
Like bubbles I thought had popped long ago.
Maybe because it’s the color of the only flower I ever managed to grow,
And I’m reminded of the pride I felt
At the soft petals and whispering fragrance.
Blue calms me.
I’m not sure why.
Maybe because it’s the color of the sky, or water, or wind, or flowers.
Or maybe I just like blue.

I wrote this piece one day when I felt upset, and I realized I felt slightly calmer when I looked at my friend's blue shirt, or the blue sticky notes on the teacher's desk. Writing calms me down as well, so I wrote about blue.
