Survivor
You do not know this yet, Jordy, but you will
get through the next few years of your life.
Every day around the time you sleep,
you will doubt yourself.
You cannot bring yourself
to see the good things.
You will feel like everything should end,
despite the extremes your family goes to.
You smile to hide what feels
like a million tears.
You will be exhausted from sleepless nights
where you dread the following day.
You will think there is no end to the pain,
but somehow you manage to get through it.
Everybody thought you would be gone by now,
that you weren't strong enough; yet somehow you’re still here.
You have lived in a place you hate with people you despise
for what seems like a thousand years, and self-hatred becomes your middle name.
Years will go by while you're stuck here,
in the middle of this terrible place.
They always told you dreams could come true,
but nightmares are dreams too.
All dreams come to a stop,
so don't worry, dear.
Nightmares will end,
even if yours is a reality.
