the blooming rose
I watched his lips
form the words he was speaking
I was caught on every letter
but didn’t hear anything
I shifted my gaze to his eyes
they were bluer than the sky
they stared back at me
his iris swirling
like the ocean during a storm
he stopped talking
and furrowed his eyebrows
what was his thinking?
he leaned closer to me
I looked at his lips
he spoke my name
it dripped from his lips like poison
suddenly I was numb
my chest ached
looking at his eyes
I felt something I have never felt before
the longing to embrace
the feeling grew through me
like a vine
wrapping itself around my heart
I twirled my hair around my finger
letting go
I kissed him
the vine inside me bloomed
roses grew and made my heart swell
how lucky am I to love
and to be loved
