Dead Inside
The green velvet
Hung from my shoulders
and dragged behind me
As my shoes hit the floor
Again and again.
Click, click, click.
Steady fingers
Undid the clasp
And the velvet fell to the floor.
Left behind,
Forgotten.
The white silk
Moved in waves
Against my legs.
The stone floor
Was cold
Against my feet
When I stepped out of my shoes
And sat in front of the mirror.
Dark as night,
My hair fell in tangles.
Pale as snow,
My skin glowed eerily.
The mirror showed me
Who I truly was.
My eyes,
That once sparkled,
Now were dead,
And stared back at me
Blankly.
Steady fingers
Were now shaking
As I pressed them
To my cheek
And discovered
The monster
Within.
I did not look down.
I ignored the way red
Stained white silk.
