Static
I can see the world ending before my eyes,
the blinding snow and biting winds,
the cold will creep into our bones,
steal the breath from our lips,
and freeze every last crystal of air flowing from our lungs,
the world will be at a stand still
and while we sit there,
clinging to each other with snowflakes caught in our eyelashes,
staring out into the blank white abyss left crumbling around us,
i will turn to look at you,
my last shaking breath hitting your cheek,
my final words a quivering promise i’ve tried desperately to keep,
“I’m sorry,” I say,
“I promised I would stay.”
