My Mother
Hair like satin
And eyes like the moon
Waxing and Waning
As her tactile hands shaped me
Moulding the edges
And pulling the strings
The crevice of my eyes
The mole on my cheek
All come from her
All are parts of me
As our hearts were once the same beat
I know they still will be
When I am on the other side of the country
She will still have me
The child she bore
And the woman she shaped
This love is like no other
The unbroken bond of mother and daughter

My mother and I were not always close, but as I entered my last few years of high school I realized what an important aspect she is in my life. She made me who I am today, and though I do not always love myself, I will always love her.
