Limitless

I’m running.
Running barefoot
on a rocky dirt road
to a place unknown
On burning soles
and calloused toes
The once sharp pain
inside my chest
dulled
by the drive
To go faster.
Become stronger.
To exceed the limit,
of my pitiful sponges called lungs
which struggle
to take in oxygen.
Exhilaration
courses through me
Although my body
screams
in agony
As I defy
the cruel rays
of the voracious sun
And taunt
the bloodthirsty eyes
of the moon
and it’s minions
with my hummingbird heart.
I am forever running.
Until I spy
before me
the blackened gates
of paradise.
And suddenly,
I’m falling.
Arms outstretched in need
towards a broken heaven.
Falling.
Down into the flames
of my funeral pyre
Where my soul's silhouette
awaits me
with open arms.
And in the cold embrace
of my shadow
I rise.
And commit the ultimate sin.
I fly
way up high
and destroy
all the pretty dreams and jewels
in the sky
And watch
as their sparkling  shattered pieces
slip through my bloodied fingers
and down
onto any
statuesque
ignoramuses
below.
