Until
I was born into a family.
A nice family that cherishes me
and will cherish me for as long as I live.
No matter what I am, who I am, or who I choose to love.
They will love and protect me until I die.
But, there are people who are not as fortunate in this world.
People who were not born into my family
These people, whose families loved and protected them, until.
Until.
Until he told his parents that he liked boys instead of girls.
Until they said that they wanted to be called Daniel now instead of Danielle,
until they said that they like Joey AND Samantha.
So they took away their child's only way of outside communication and safety,
Daddy got drunk again began to beat Jessica mercilessly because she was born a Justin.
Mommy cried and screamed because she saw her little boy kissing the boy next door
They told Caty not to come back because she was in love with Ashley.
Daddy throws Sarah into their room because that day they kinda felt like a Seth.
Mommy burned all of Henry’s makeup because it made him feel pretty for once
Until then, their parents protected their child.
But now, these young men and women are kicked out of their homes
the homes in which Mommy tucked them in and kissed them goodnight
the homes that Daddy called their little girls beautiful,
but can’t now because his daughter wants to be his son.
The homes in which mom hung up her son’s art on the fridge
The homes where Daddy lost at game night and everyone laughed
The homes where Christmas morning was filled with love and joy
The homes in which these children felt safe.
These parents loved their children, until.
The children who are scared to go home after school
The children who are scared to show up at school with bruises and scars from Daddy
The children are being forced to live out of the streets from the ages of 14-18
The children who only sees self harm as a solution
The children who falls into depression and develop more conditions
The children soon flooded by a wave of pills that will “fix them”
The children being afraid to express who they truly are because of stories like these
The children being tortured by their own families
The children who are being made to fear the ones who sleep across the hall,
the ones who would would comfort them after a bad dream
But, that nightmare for them, has become a reality.
These parents loved their kids, until.
Until.
