The Sensation of Sound
It begins,
gently taking you by the hand
and then slowly seeps its way inside you,
intoxicating your body with warmth
and setting your heart free.
With just a single touch
your spirit fills to the brim,
every emotion imaginable wrapped up
in one single measure.
Your insides begin to melt
at the sound of sustained vibrato,
and the beauty
of a thousand harmonies.
You get chills to the core
at a magnificent crescendo,
your body tingling
from both the power and grace
of a brilliant chord progression.
You’ve made it to the place
where spirits soar.
Only sound
is glorious enough
to transport the soul to that place.
Only sound can leave you
with tears in your eyes,
marveling at the breathtaking beauty
performed in front of you.
Only sound can leave you
feeling so full
that the emptiness you feel
while the sounds float into nothingness
is masked by the fluttering of your heart,
and you only wish
the final note would linger on
endlessly.
And when it's all over,
you can simply sit in darkness,
allowing the fluttering to continue,
and the warmth to spread
to the tips of your every limb,
even after the sound diminishes
into silence.

Music plays a big role in my life, and it was my inspiration for this piece. I wanted to describe my incredible experience with music and how it has impacted me. I hope people take away from this poem the notion that music is extremely powerful and can move you in so many ways, you just have to be willing to let the music take you where it wants you to go.
