I saw his stupid face
And I couldn’t help rolling my eyes.
UGH.
He was the worst.
He thought he was so great –
At everything.
And maybe he was.
But I still hated him for it.
Wow, he pissed me off.
For some reason.
It wasn’t until I actually spoke to him
That I realized
His voice sounded like gravel,
And his eyes were Neptune:
A swirling mixture of white and grey and blue.
It wasn't until I actually spoke to him
That I realized
His laugh was a drug
My parents forgot to warn me about,
And his chest contained beaming sun.
It wasn’t until I actually spoke to him
That I realized
We were puzzle pieces
Who fit together perfectly
And were complete.
It wasn’t until I met my best friend
That I realized
He was exactly what I’d been missing.

This is a memory of the first time I spoke to my best friend a year ago. I hated him before I got to know him.
