Too late to be awake
Too early to go to sleep
A little girl snuggled in bed
All tight and cozy under her sheets
Turns on her starry night light
Opens a book and in she strides
She finds herself atop a hill
She is the daughter of the sky
The sister of the earth
The voice that the trees speak
As she races against the wind
Her blue gown shimmers against the light
For it’s made out of the dryad’s silk
As she flaunts her delicate red flower
So carefully placed in her hair
Created by gnomes with a pinch of fairy dust
As the day is turned to evening by a chariot who carries the moon
She waits for the fairies to come out
And dance with her under the stars that twinkle like little gems
The fauns lumber towards her, play and melodious tune
With all creatures great and small as they laugh and dance all through the night
As the last note echos through the hills
She knows it’s past her bedtime
Not wanting to go home,
though her eyes start to fall
the world before her slips away
As she feels the silken sheets encase her body
And drifts asleep with a whisper of a smile across her face.
