Fall camping
I startle to the sounds of two owls screeching
Cutting through the dead silence of the early dawn;
The smell of the campfire drifts into my tent
Drawing me out of my warm, cozy cocoon;
The raw, crisp air hits my face
My breath turning to a frosty cloud;
A shiver runs down my spine
Seeing the glow of the sun’s rays against the Icy blue sky.
The fire crackles and flickers as our cold bones soak up it’s heat
Mesmerizing us with dancing flames of orange, red and yellow;
The earthy aroma of dry leaves fills my nostrils as
The sweet smelling heat of hot chocolate steams against my face.
Making me feel warm and joyful deep down.
I settle into my camp chair to ponder days past
Peace drifts over me, a blanket of contentment;
My eyes become heavy and laden as
I drift into a sweet, deep slumber.
