Darkness Approaches
The wind blows across a sweltering
plain, as people crowd,
running to the ever wondrous oasis
which will grant them their hopes and dreams.
Alone
a man stands
thinking,
waiting,
watching.
For he sees that
the oasis
is only a mirage in this desert,
that most people run in place
never getting closer,
distracting themselves
from the darkness slowly creeping up on them.
That the few that reach the oasis
only ever realise they did
when it's behind them,
long past,
so they just keep running
to the next oasis
never outrunning their
impending doom.
Although the man knows what's coming,
he can do nothing but watch
as the abyss takes more victims
