I am not black and you are not white.

I wonder why my people finish half of school and head straight for jail.

I hear that death knows nothing of color.

I see now, is that why we’re  killing each  other.

I want to be able to believe in what I can be.

I am not black, you are not white.

I pretend to be okay but…..

I feel left in the dark when a black person doesn’t believe in black history or BET.

I touch the souls of those who don’t believe in me.

I worry that no one will ever see what I see.

I cry because I know that it’s over, in 2020 the glock 22 will be the only controller.

I am not black and you are not white.

I understand who holds the position of the man in the world.

I say the world isn’t fair.

I dream one day I won’t be judged by the texture of my hair.

I try to stay sane but the blame that I gain just drives me insane.

I hope for there to be more people like you and me because……

I am not black and you are not white but we are one.

I feel like race is a big issue in the world right now and the issue won't be resolved if it is not addressed. With this poem, I feel like I am contributing to helping this huge issue.
