Archery
When I pull that bowstring,
The moment right before the arrow is released,
Is when I connect with history.
For that one moment I am a Neanderthal about to kill a deer to feed my family,
For that one moment I am an Ancient Greek hero about to bring down an enemy and save my
homeland,
For that one moment I am a king conquering nations and building an empire,
For that one moment I am a gladiator fighting for my life against lions in the Coliseum,
For that one moment I am Robin Hood on a daring theft,
For that one movement I am a Spaniard stepping onto a new, undiscovered land for the first time,
For that one moment I am a Native American on a wild hunt,
For that one moment I am a pioneer venturing out west into the vast, unknown wilderness,
For that one moment I am Lida Scott Howell winning America’s first Olympic gold medal in
women's archery,
For that one moment I am all who have passed, all who are, and all who have yet to come.
For that one moment I am me.

I have always loved archery and history. The connections between the two inspired this poem.
