Where has the time gone?

I remember visiting you
Seeing you in August
The smell of your familiar home
You gushing about how tall I’d grown
Shaking my hand as you told me I was beautiful
Eating KFC at your dining room table
Your old couch sinking with my weight
Sitting on the fireplace brick

Grandma,
Where has the time gone?

Then it happened
Uncle Johnny passed unexpectedly
My skin sticking to the pews of the church
The tears streaming down my face
Crowds of people in your home
The tea room being open for the first time
The smell of homemade food
Kissing you goodbye

Grandma,
Where has the time gone?

Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse
The news hit my ears
You had fallen
It was a stroke
Or at least that was what I was told
Updates on your health came almost every day
I started to feel hopeful

Grandma,
Where has the time gone?

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks
You aren’t doing that great
They say you aren’t eating
My heart sinks at the thought
It’s like a game
A game I don’t want to play
Every day  we wait to hear how you are
And Every day it seems to be getting worse

Grandma,

If it’s your time
Just know I’m not ready for you to go
No one is ready
I’ll miss you
And every day I ask myself
