Where I’m From
I’m from the city that never sleeps.
From late night picnics in the park,
To family gathering once a week.
I’m from a traditional family with big dreams for me.
Those dreams that would lead to a new life in the States.
I’m from an escape of a corrupt government,
Where there was no room for individual thought and belief.
I’m from dirt roads leading to family and love;
And from a chance in States which gave freedom,
Freedom of belief,
Education,
And individuality.
This freedom that would bring my parents pride,
And a hope for my brother and I.
I’m from the late night laughs with my parents,
About our memories,
Our dreams,
And small talks that meant the world to me.
But most importantly,
I’m from a belief in purpose.
I found this purpose on my search for freedom.
A purpose that makes everything irrelevant, except…
Where I will be.
