Where I’m From
I’m from a place of constant progress
Where the only place to go is forward
I’m from the hopes of a family a long way from home
I’m from the beginning of a duo
A hope that two is better than being alone
I’m from a home that’s constantly changing
From small, cramped, simplicity
To a home shrouded in duplicity
I’m from a world that was big and yellow and bright
That quickly turned dark and turbulent, like a stormy night
I’m from hours of peace, from eight to six
Where laughter and secrets would gently mix
But quickly would follow as turned to fright,
The anger that turned that bright day to night
But as I’m from progress I quickly overcame
That darkness that sadness used to claim
I’m from running to ice cream vans filled with sweets
I’m from watching over friends my sister would greet
I’m from conflicts that she and I had almost forever
I’m from learning that I’m glad that we are together
I’m from loneliness to awkwardness to eventual happiness
I’m from frivolous to fabulous and friend-filled sappiness
I’m from a place that keeps moving
I’m from never-ending progress
Yet this is just a story of another simple life
Filled both with fun and constant strife
I’m from curiosity that leads where I run
So now I must ask: where are you from?
