I’m from everywhere
I’m from nowhere
I’m from the small rental house in North Carolina that I have no memory of
I’m from the peach state where my mother grew up and football on Friday nights was the most important part of the week
I’m from the U.S. Military Academy where my father taught young cadets that always liked to play games with me and my sister
I’m from waiting in New York City with my aunt to see Santa with hot chocolate and a candy cane
I’m from the soccer field and swirly monkey bars in a small neighborhood and oak trees that made me sneeze
I’m from the cool evergreen trees around the parade field and running all over the Fort Lewis with no worries
I’m from the humid, hot days in Louisiana where the closest shopping mall is a half hour away
I’m  from the college town of K-State where every weekend was an exciting college sport to watch
I’m from the where friends called people like me “war college kids” so they knew we would only be there for ten months
I’m from NOVA where the entire region is hypercompetitive and relaxation doesn’t exist
I will be from Alaska where I am warned to stay away from the moose and to be prepared to bring a sleeping bag as school supplies in case I get snowed in
