Old Friends & Thanks Mom
Old Friends
I still admire the old days
When we had no worries at all
No homework no drama
Just us playing, trying to ball
We would get mad, push, shove
Even though we would fight we knew it would be alright
But I figured it wouldn't last
I'm starting to forget about the times we had
everything just seems to be going bad
We used to dream about this
Growing older and older
But now all you give me is a cold shoulder.
We see each other all the time
But it’s like we're invisible to each other
We used to be like brothers
and just because we've moved on
doesn’t mean that i’m gone.
Thanks Mom
Sometimes I think back to my childhood
All those restless nights you spent
trying find a job to pay rent
and how even though money was tight
everything would be alright.
That's what you told me,
And I believed you
I thank you everyday for that.
You taught me all we need is a little faith,
a loving family
and a place to call home.
And that would lead you to a happy life
and even though many may have more money
none were as rich as me.

Dear Editor of Teen Ink,
Please consider the attached poems “Old Friends” and “Thanks Mom” for inclusion into the future issue of the magazine. When the latest issue of the magazine came out I really enjoyed reading the poems. I feel like these poems about losing a friend and having a loving family may be a good fit for the magazine.
I am a Freshman High School student that attends Trinity Episcopal School in Richmond, Virginia. I am really enjoying writing poetry this year. These are my first ever poems i’ve ever written. I have never had a poem published and this is my first time submitting one but I would be honored to have my poem printed in the magazine.
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Reed Powell
