She follows the others
As they walk in a line
No difference among them all
Demonstrating a clone of the expectations placed on them
This mundane world leaves a scar on her heart
When suddenly she spots a glimmer of color on the path
She wears with a sense of pride
Until they turn to her
And attack her with their slander
The abuse leaves an array of bruises on her spirit
She looks around at the world surrounding her
And steps away
Realizing that life is more than mimicking the crowd

The night I wrote this poem, my friend was going through a difficult time where she wasn't happy with being different. The way she felt made me realize how our society acts towards differences.
