Sunshine
When will this pain go away?
Will the memory ever fade?
The sun rises
to begin another day
and the world wakes up around me
I look out the window
and see the town come to life.
No one is here to pity me,
they have their own lives to live.
I sit in the dark
craving somebody’s company
to tell me it’s okay
to tell it will get better
to tell me all the things I need to hear
but I don’t have that.
I am the sole source of my reassurance.
I stand up
and walk out the door,
the sun finally rising
for me.
