What is a poem
but a series of words
strung together in lines – no. Stanzas?

They are expressions of the heart,
the deepest desires, the pain and anger
that can’t help but explode onto the
empty space of paper
(or whatever material is present at the time).

They can be long, drawn-out confessions,
or they can stop short

at any given time.
