13 years old,
Just two teenagers laughing like there is no tomorrow,
They talk about girls (from the guy),
They talk about boys (from the girl),
They talk about the future,
Which is high school and then later college,
But they're two 13 year olds,
The boy is ready for a change,
The girl is not,
She's really scared,
But her best friend tells her it's going to be okay and he's got her back,
He promises that forever,
You ask where these two thirteen year olds meet,
The two thirteen year olds meet in a new transferred middle school,
They say they're scared but they're there for each other,
It lasts for much longer then anyone can expect,
A couple of months past,
They talk about high school,
They talk about popularity,
They talk about drugs,
They talk about alcohol,
And they swear they won't do drugs or alcohol in high school,
The month is June,
She wears her brown hair cut short,
He brushes his red hair into a laid back style,
She wears a dress,
He wears a polo and slacks,
He walks down the gym to get his certificate for graduating middle school,
She walks down the gym to get her certificate for graduating middle school,
After graduating middle school they both say in 4 years we'll both graduate high school,
Freshman year comes and goes,
They're still there for each other,
Sophomore year comes and goes,
They're still there for each other after 2 years,
Junior year comes and goes,
They talk about college,
The future,
The kids they'll have and how his kids will be her godchildren, and how her kids will be his godchildren,
They talk about everything but they stay in the past, not in the future,
They're still there for each other,
The summer before senior year comes,
The girl gets her senior photos done and the boy says "My best friend is beautiful, she shines in it and she shows it.",
The boy gets his senior photos done and the girl says "We've grown up with each other since the 8th grade, my best friend is handsome, he looks great in anything he wears, can we start senior year right now together?",
They know it's there last year that they're going to go to the same school together, but they'll always be there for each other,
Senior year comes and goes,
The boy starts his last year of football,
The girl supports him from the first game to the last game,
She cheers loudly for him in senior night because she knows they made it through everything together,
Prom comes,
She dresses in a coral dress with her hair done and she looks beautiful,
He dresses in a blue tux and takes her friend to prom,
All of her friends and her best friend dance and laugh together,
He dances better than the girl does,
She can admit it a lot,
Then a couple of days come before the last day of school,
She asks if he's ready,
He says he's ready,
The last day of school comes,
They're both surprised that they're starting and ending high school together,
Like expected,
She writes her experiences with her best friend on Facebook saying it's an honor getting to know him for 5 years,
Baccalaureate happens,
She hears the song "You Raise Me Up" and when she hears "I'm stronger when I'm on your shoulders" she looks at her best friend and utters an "I love you" to him,
After baccalaureate she looks at her best friend who has been her support system for the past 5 years,
He then looks at her and says her name and hugs her and she hugs him back and he says "Thank you",
They promise to see each other when break happens for both of them,
The day the boy and girl graduate she says "we made it" he says "yes, we both made it.",
Her name is announced, her family cheers for her, her friends cheer for her and the boy who is her best friend cheers for her and says "you go girl, that's my best friend.",
His name is announced, his family cheers for him, his friends cheer for him and the girl who is his best friend cheers for him and says "yes woohoo, that's my best friend."she then says to him "I'm so proud of you, you're my best friend I knew you could do it, I knew we could both do it together.",
They go to college and they're still there for each other, like the last year of school, they were there for each other, they were there for each other for 5 years,
2016 hits,
6 years of friendship,
The boy surprises the girl at work,
They talk about him becoming a sports medicine doctor and her undecided future,
They both have to go to work but they promise they'll be there for each other and they'll see each other again,
The girl says "that's my best friend",
The boy says "that's my best friend"
I'm the girl and the boy is my best friend,
Thank you to my best friend,
For surviving the puberty,
the peer pressure,
the self-esteem issues,
for the love and loss,
thank you,
it means a lot,
to me,
I guess it means a lot to you too,
I love you too the moon and back best friend.

The author's comments:

I wrote this to thank my best friend for everything. We've been through everything in the 6 years we've known each other, we've been through peer pressure, we've been through puberty, name anything we've been through it for the past 6 years. Here is a thank you to my best friend.
