Hollow Beauty
Porcelain faces,
Gleaming in even the dimmest of light.
Ruby red lips,
Smiling,
Smiling.
Crystalline blue eyes,
Dancing with artificial life.
Perfection without work,
Adoration without personality,
Love with eyes wide open.
The dolls,
The dolls,
They’re everywhere.
Followers without power,
Admirers without honesty.
Plastic, shiny brains,
Empty of common sense,
Full of secrets and lies.
Effortless perfection,
Laughing at me,
Taunting me,
Leaving me with nothing,
Nothing.
Nothing at all.
Cheekbones rising to the sun,
All “natural.”
The dolls,
The dolls,
They’re everywhere.
Curled, raven lashes
Without makeup,
Rosy cheeks,
No blush.
Enough beauty to bring
Anyone to their
Knees.
When it all comes down to it,
Though,
They’re not real,
Just glimmering porcelain,
But who would know
That the most beautiful things in this world
Are merely illusions?

At the time I wrote this, (about 2 months ago,) I was in camp and everyone there held themselves like they were perfect and, like I always do, I wrote about it and I think it turned into a nice poem! This is really about how, yes, seeing someone who's "perfect" is frustrating, you also know that if they try to be better than who they really are, they might be hiding behind their looks or their brains or their talent.
