"I think about life, and I think about death, and neither one particularly appeals to me," - Morrissey.

Shield your soul
From the scorching sunlight,
Before faint flickering swallows you whole,
Cower from the bright.
How could you breathe
This tainted air of torment?
Does your outrage not seethe,
Or is your curiosity spent?
What do you mean?
No screams shattering the air like broken glass I hear,
Bloodshed, I have not seen,
You’re deceived by your fears!
You blithering fool,
Turning your gaze to the distance,
You’re an excellent tool,
With quite the indifference.
Simmering in my blood.
A guilt is boiling,
And I collapse with a thud
as reality is uncoiling.
What are you saying?
No gunshots pierce the turquoise sky,
I see no slaying,
It’s a fantasy, a lie!
Oh, of course, you’re right!
Nobody’s dead
Your neighbors in no plight,
It’s all in your head!
Wait, what am I saying?
The flames are searing my skin,
I’m crumbling, I’m aching
With the blistering shame within.
Shield your eyes
From the inevitable truth,
For the millions fading in somber demise
Will never be enough proof.

This was for an 8th grade Holocaust project, and references my point of view on bystanders within Germany during that time.
