What bothers me is that i am confined to what the government established
What they thought would be right
What my education should be
But theres more to that
We spend our times learning in english about great writers like Shakespeare
Only to find ourselves judged on how well we can understand a language that is no longer used
We get yelled at for using contractions even though Shakespeare is called the inventor of slang
Why must we write a certain way but speak a different to be understood by my peers
If we wrote that’s he was lit about a character in an essay my teacher would shame us
But if we said to a friend he had consumed lots of alcohol and had a fun time…no one would speak to us
We’d be outcasts
Because no one talks like that anymore
I once wrote my opinion on a book and the teacher deducted me marks
Because she did not agree with my opinion
But how can you agree with my opinion if its mine
Isn’t that what teachers tell our parents they want us to be, individuals who have opinions
But only if our opinions exist in the guidelines and follow the school standard
So we’re not becoming individuals we’re just copies of one another
And we need to break free
In history we learn about mistakes of our ancestors how we should never have a war like that again
But what about the middle east
Have we learned nothing yet
What is the point of education if we keep making the same mistakes over and over again
Our government makes these curriculum's for us to learn how to lead a better life
But what example are they showing, spending billions of dollars on the army
We must protect ourselves they say
But from what
There is no greater enemy then your own country
You can’t put everyone in a box and expect them to come out the best they can
I guess thats the point isn’t
We need people to flip burgers don’t we
Only those who are mindless enough to confine to the walls will  do good
They won’t break out and learn that 1+1=2
But what about those who want to go deeper
Who know that 2+2 = fish
This is for the students who colour outside the lines
The ones who got a C in art because they’re crayon went out of the box
In art class they tell us to express ourselves
Draw art on who we are
But then get a C when some teacher decides it doesn’t live up to their standards
This is to the kids who we’re told they won’t have a good job because they didn’t pass math
Theres more to you then that
In 50 years no one will remember what you got in grade 10 english
Find who you are and stick with it because you are more then a box
