The Sailor
I know a boy with an ocean inside of his chest.
He moves like the waves and kisses like a sea breeze.
Yet I know that he has seen a thousand lover’s storms.
He acts as though all love can do to him-
Is drown, and scorn, and leave.
But I'm here.
And just as a sailor braves a stormy sea,
I will sail through anything with him.
And just as the sailor sits patiently through a night on the open waves,
I will hold him throughout any lengths of hurt.
As the sailor ties his knots,
I will wait with steady hands.
As the sailor guides his boat,
I will wait with an open heart.
As the sailor navigates a labyrinth of stars,
I will lay out my love like a map.
The sea may crash and consume,
But I have faith in the calm.
I have faith in the tides of his heart,
For I have seen the ocean in the first gentle glimmers of morning.
