A Moment
It was safe-
riding in you car,
in the tightening dark,
with the howling night locked away.
You didn't ask.
You just ran your fingers over the wheel's leather
and I looked up at those stars
in the quiet, unsaying silence.
I saw your eyes with mine.
The street lights' glow caught onto you and me
and we illuminated, like the moon shining on a tide.
We watched as the other became a wonderful rarity in the dark.
