I’m from imagination
And hard work,
Long nights alone,
Second floor balconies,
And being accident prone.

I’m from college essays
Until late in the night,
Climbing trees
Only to give cicadas
Quite a fright.

I’m from dreaming of days
When I’d soar over buildings
Wings lifting me up into the sky,
From cornfields among houses,
And iron bars because he sold the high.

I am from lonely days on the playground,
Fearing when I might die-
From skinny kid contests,
And broken arms because they tried.

I am from a home
that tried so hard
To put what they could
On a shiny plastic card.

Love and care,
yeah, they were there.
Although it’s lonely,
Loving the cold winter air.

This piece is about my childhood and some memories that stand out about when I was growing up. I originally did this for a class assignment but it has really become one of my favorites- after some editing.
