She sits

At a desk

Surrounded by a mask

A mask filled with noise

with static

A sycamore tree comes into view

she longs for it

reaching

dreaming

It takes her somewhere

she is forbidden to go

trapped

but she won't admit it

because she accepts it

because her life

as she knows it

depends on this

right?

What if she broke free?

she couldn't dare

poking holes in her existence

this is all she knows

she never forgets

her promises

her words

she never stops thinking

but she does it

she reaches for that tree

yet she cannot get up

so she tries to hang on to both

still sitting

The author's comments:

As a teenager, I tend to feel buried under the ideals of my parents, teachers, etc. and sometimes I get the urge to do something I shouldn't. I've always been the kind of girl to do what's right and I have come to many crossroads that have made me challenge those ideals.
