“Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words will never hurt me”
Never say never
Because words are cruel.
I would rather be decked
Than taken apart
Brick by brick
With word by word
Sentence by sentence.
I would rather be laid out
Bleeding
Than dissected
By sharp assumptions
And bitter pretense.
I would even rather be broken
Shattered by the hands of another
Than to hear the silence
Echoed by bystanders
In the face of ridicule.
