Liberty
I am country tis of thee
Where is my sweet land of liberty?
Somewhere, lost along the Mason-Dixon line
Liberty sits in hiding, fearful of the wretched swine
Who will rob her native headresses for her own
Then take her tomahawk back home.
I am the rocket's red glare
And we cheer for the bombs
That burst in the air
We are hungry for war
And thirsty for the fight
Only dreams can be fathomed in such delight.
Liberty wears our flag upon her chest:
The red? the blood of the people laid to rest
The blue the veins that pump life to the white
The white who win, and the white who fight.
Liberty will forever sit
Dipping her feet into freedom's midst.

I was inspired to write this piece by the amount of cultural appropriation that takes place in our American society. I think that with our general slogans slapped upon billboards and bumper stickers such as 'Freedom' 'Hope' and 'Liberty,' it is often easy for our true reasons to get caught behind such cookie-cutter terms.
