Guarding the corn

Eyes staring
black holes devoid of a soul
with only dirty straw to keep bones warm.
They are the great protectors of the land
standing tall on two wooden posts
but humiliated
by the wounds
of countless crows
It seems that the straw is more delicious than the seeds.
I guess they served their purpose after all.
