I am pouncing across the baking black asphalt
in my lime green bikini.
Palm trees hover over me like foreign UFO’s
as I breathe in the aroma of sea salt and sunscreen.
I throw my beach towel onto the collection of grains of sand.
I sprint to the ocean,
hold my breath,
and duck under the powerful waves.
Salt water is spraying my face,
the sun is tanning my skin golden brown,
and the ethereal glow of the waves excites me.
In this moment I truly feel unattached.
The current throws punches
and tumbles over my body.
As I stand up laughing, I look down
and see my top being washed away.
I glance up to see a surfer gawking in awe.
I wink and dive back under to retrieve my top.
After hours of swimming and floating
in the celestial being that is the ocean,
I find myself in a daze.
The sun is setting,
my hair is crunchy,
and my skin if five shades darker.
I hike my way up to the bluffs
to watch the alluring Southern- Californian sunset.
The wind is whistling through the succulents and cacti.
I am in a trance of bliss,
overwhelmed by the pulchritude of the Pacific Ocean.
Feeling every blade of grass tickle my body,
I lie down to plant myself in the earth from which I came.
