Red(Lights)s
Do you remember waiting at the stop light?
Anger as red as the bulb,
The holes in your ruby jeans as big as the holes in my heart
My hair gleaming fire
Like the love I carry
Basked in warm florescent blood glow
Pooling around us
Staining the streaks on my face
It looks like my eyes are bleeding,
Is this what tears are supposed to be?
The words coming out of your mouth were scarlet
Jagged ends and spiny beginnings
Rush through your face, pour out
Flooding the crimson vinyl
It looked like we had torn our chests open
With love and rage and sadness, and fear seeping out from the inside
Together as bright as the trucks surrounding us
I thought we would burn forever
But you were the match head, I was simply news
To read and set aflame
And watch fizzle out
As you still run red everywhere you go
And I’m bathed in blue
