Out of the Atmosphere.
the alien came to earth and observed
she read books and listened to hip hop
she saw the way the humans fought
she wondered if the wars would stop
the alien lived in my house and listened
she heard the stories we told
she heard us singing billy joel
she heard the sniffles of our colds
the alien went to my school and learned
she learned of columbus who sailed his ship
she learned of music and boys and friendship
she learned of fire and how it’s lit
the alien lived on earth and convinced them she was human too
she kept her green antennas out of view
she kept her weirdo ideas to herself because she knew
“i can only live on this earth if i’m just like you”
