Tell me...
Tell me tree,
What do you hear?
What do you see?
And what do you feel?
Reaching for the sky you know you'll someday reach,
Your thick and thin tendrils of hope,
Outstretched in childlike ignorant tenderness.
I envy you.
Growing, ever-growing,
Ever-green and peacefully eternal in your own image
Of constant joyful blindness
Your essence is exhilaratingly calm.
Always watching,
Watching over in your own non-thinking;
Non-hurtful protection.
You are an infinite representation of peace.
You are the lone figure,
The scarecrow to ward off evil,
Scaring the crows of hate and fear
And you are there.

This was an assignment for a creative writing class last year. The prompt was 'A Whisper in the Wind." It is meant to be a conversation that you could have with someone that is not really there. And a desire to hear what they would say. I chose to do an inanimate object, a tree, and I liked the outcome. Hope you like!!
