Lit screens in hand.
Fingers calcified from tapping
our laughter and emotions.
Sending our thoughts through public jungles
of wires and screen-shot pictures
of the elusive species known as the human.
We hide from the masses.
Camoflaging ourselves as if we are chameleons.
Blending in and hiding from society.
Face to face a forced laugh
or gesture of affection is sometimes hard.
We take the easy way.
We put up a front.
You can't see our real emotions.
We won't let you!
"Lol, haha, yep." All sent to replace the truth.
The truth is, is that I just said
what i thought you wanted to hear.
Human contact is part of survival.
No one can hide behind a server forever.
Take a step out into the open,
push away the front,
show your true colors.
Peel your eyes away from the one thing
that holds your attention and
say "hi" to the person right in front of you.

This poem repesents how connected our generation is to our phones and other electronics, we let them run ourlives. I for one am happy I don't have a smartphone, because if I did, I know I wouldn't be able to get myself off of it. We just need to be aware of our obsension and hopefuly change some things.
