A Candle in the Wind
Match drawn across a wall in the dark
Starts that reaction which causes a spark
The wind whipping round bend o’er bend
I am a candle born in the wind
Child born of accident and to poor kin
Living with mother and father in house shrouded with sin
Till one fateful day mother disappears
I am a child cowering in fear
The wind comes in bursts, rapid and rash
Making small candle waver and flash
It's little light in need of a mend
I am a candle battered in the wind
Father of child threatens to be violent
If the pest dare be any but silent
Covered with marks, tears hard to keep in
I am a boy, unloved and beaten
Slowed is the wind, it seems to be calm
Now candle strengthens with this sudden balm
You could almost call this stillness a friend
I am a candle surviving the wind
During a time the rain came to stay a while
The boy noticed another and was met with a smile
They quickly grew close, he spoke of his father
I am a boy of whom much less can bother
Suddenly the wind rushed again, stronger than before
Flame atop candle was struck to the core
Dangerously it danced while the evil breeze grinned
I am a candle betrayed by the wind
As quick as it started the friendship was broken
When the most sour of all vile words were spoken
He was called names, teased and taunted
I am a boy once again unloved and unwanted
Ever persistent, the wind continues to flow
Till candle, barely lit, is only a glow
The wax all but melted, the fading light thin
I am a candle giving in to the wind
In the dark silence of his room many a tear were shed
Thin and frail, he hung on by only a thread
Bruises were not the only marks on his skin to cover with makeup
I am a boy ready to give up
Never stopping nor slowing the wind rampaged on
Flame flickered and fought, I fear it will never see dawn
With one last puff of air the candle was dimmed
I am a candle killed by the wind
