Yellow Shoes
Her shoes were big,
they matched her person.
No one could fit in them if they tried,
if they did their heels would slip out,
so they don’t.
Late nights giggling girls in their sleeping bags,
shopping trips trying on sunglasses,
singing songs on long drives into town
but God invited her all too soon.
The heavens rejoiced when they welcomed her.
Now the sun shines a little brighter,
and Jesus smiles a little bigger.
She will welcome us there one day
and her hugs will be worth the wait.

My late friend Rachel inspired this poem. She was a huge inspiration to me and many. She passed away from cancer, but even though she was going through a lot she always kept her head held high. Her joyful spirit will be forever missed.
